One of the challenges of photography is giving a sense of scale. This is true for macro, landscape, any genre where there is nothing for hte brain to use as an anchor with regards to size.

In this shot for example, my brain want to latch onto that fern tree and say they are about a metre and a hald high and scale the rest of the image from that. However I know that's wildly wrong. So wrong in fact that a better sense of scale is achived if you look at the rock near the base of that fern tree, and I tell you that they are over a metre tall.
