Litoria fallax (Eastern Dwarf Tree Frog)

IUCN Status: Least Concern

If you live on the East coast of Australia there’s a good chance you live within the habitat of these cute little frogs. They have a large distribution area: from Cairns in North Queensland down to Ulladulla in Southern NSW. They are very small tree frogs (males only to 2cm) and are often found in sedge like grasses, and other low vegetation. Perhaps the most common frogs in their range, they their characteristic raspy “reek, rep rep” call are often heard at the start of showers.

This individual is one of many that live around our yard, especially the ponds. He was spending days sitting on orchid bud, and appeared to be attracted to the aphids and associated insects.
