Ornithoptera euphorion (Cairns Birdwing) IUCN Status: Not Assessed.
This is the biggest butterfly species in Australia. From their name, Captain Obvious is able to deduce they are found in tropical wet forests around Cairns. This quite common and not considered endangered.
Like all butterflies, they are very skittish, and take to the wing on the slightest hint of a threat: making them very hard to photograph.
