Cosmophasis thalassina (Sea-green Jumping Spider)

I’m happy to be back at macro work. This was shot with my 150mm macro lens with a 1.4x teleconverter on my crop my 7D camera. This creates an effective focal length of 336mm – which is crazy long for macro work. The image is shot at F14, and under therefore getting enough nice looking light is the critical challenge. In this case I used two canon flashes with soft boxes on them as slaves to the 7D’s on board flash.

Even then, at ISO 200 the image is slightly under exposed and had to be lifted a little in post processing. Always shoot in the RAW.
