When I travel, I try and make sure I ask locals what they recommend as things to see. Sometimes you hit on real gems.
You won't find this in many tourist guides, and you've got to go a bit out of your way to see it, but if you ever get the chance got and look at the
Californian Redwood grove planted by the banks of a river in Otway state forest.
This species are the tallest tress on the planet, and though not a scratch on the 1800 years they can live, the small is still an amazing place. The trees, planted in the 1930's tower straight and strong and have formed a canopy so high and complete, that little else can complete.
I've added seeing the remnant forest in the US to my list of things to do before I kick the bucket.
