This is a view from Mount Campbell looking down over Hansons Peak, Dove Lake, and Cradle Mountain. In the foreground are two pencil pines (Athrotaxis cupressoides). These vulnerable conifers are endemic to Tasmania, growing in the highlands and having incredibly long lifespans (> 1200 years). They are often found in “groves” around the shores of the highland lakes and streams, giving a characteristic ambience.

This is the first of an upcoming spree of photos from a week shooting around Cradle Mountain. It was made possible because the generosity of the wonderful people at Cradle Mountain Hotel. I’ll elaborate on that in an upcoming blog entry.
