This is the story of a night owl needing to transform into an early bird. Right now it’s nearly one AM, and I wanted to get up tomorrow morning to photography birds.
Jerry Seinfeld does a bit where he relates being a night guy, and the night guys likes to stay up late being naughty because he doesn’t pay for it. The unfortunate consequences fall on the morning Jerry. Night Jerry never meets morning Jerry, and has not empathy for him. In fact he may even get a naughty spark from stealing from him.
And so it is for me.
However it’s morning Brad that can up get up and find the best light. It’s only he that can see the morning chorus. These are critical to create the best photography work that night Brad so desires to process and curate. Night Brad also needs to handle shooting astrophotography and nocturnal animals. So a truce must be called and better sleep times negotiated.
This is shot from a lookout on Olivers Road looking south east over Mole Creek Karst National Park, over to the highlands at the Devils Gullet. I’d got up at 05:30, heading towards Arm River again to shoot the falls and birds. As I past the lookout I glimpsed this amazing light, jumped on the brakes and backed up to park. I watched and waited, taking bursts of shots, as this incredible light show played out. As the first sunlight hit the highlands I captured this.
