Diomedea exulans

Diomedea exulans (Wandering Albatross - Snowy)

IUCN Status: Vulnerable

This photo was taken on a pelagic birding trip on 2023=01-29 off Eaglehawk Neck. These trips are one of the richest natural history experiences I know of.

This day the wind was mild, and many tiny storm petrels were coming in closer than they often do. I was tacking this giant wandering albatross, taking a burst of photos, while this little photo bomber flitted on into the shot. The fact that both are in focus shows they were the same distance, and highlights the enormous size difference.
