Petroica goodenovii (Red-Capped Robin)

IUCN Status: Least Concern

This is not a single image. It is a set of three taken over the space of a minute or so as the birds came to feed. There were insects in a bush just out of shot, and the parents took turns getting a feed. The male (left) also fed the juvenile (right) surprisingly forcefully, which was just as well since the young bird dropped his food more than once.
Red-capped robins were on my list of species I was targeting on my recent trip to western Queensland. I was fortunate to stumble on this family, though surprised they’d reared such a large offspring by early November. 2021 was a cool year, and many things in the natural world were a little slower off the mark this spring.
