Thinornis cucullatus

Thinornis cucullatus (Hooded Plover)

IUCN Status: Near Threatened

These tiny birds forage on the water line on surf beaches, nesting in the soft sand up the beach. They are very timid, and difficult to photograph as they typically walk/run away from any human presence on the beach.

To photo graph this bird I did what I love doing. I sat on the beach and waited. As the handful of people on the beach walked past, and back, I was forgotten, and the birds actually came towards me, allowing for a detailed and engaging (looking) photo.
