Todiramphus pyrrhopygius (Red-backed Kingfisher) IUCN Status: Least Concern I got up early and walked around Lake Francis near Camooweal on the QLD/NT boarder. It was an utterly amazing morning. I didn’t actually count the number species on display but I’ve simply never seen such an abundance and variety of bird life. Further, the light (a core concern for photographers) was beautiful also.
We were supposed to be leaving early to get some of the drive to Katherine in the NT behind us, but every time I tried to head back to camp, a new opportunity to photograph something wonderful rendered my disciple useless.
I’ve desired kingfisher photos for a long time. They’re not common, small and skittish, making them a real challenge, and hence greatly rewarding.
