Platycercus eximius diemenensis (Eastern Rosella)

IUCN Status: Least Concern

There are three sub-species of Eastern Rosella. This one is only found in Tassie. I shot this on a farm where they are in numbers, and somewhat habitualised to be around people.

This is a female. It is very common for the colouration of females to be more drab than they male counter parts. This is true with this species as well, though not as pronounced as in others. The males are a little less mottled, a little more strongly coloured, and missing an stripe on the under wing that females possess.

Still, when this is "drab" you can imagine how striking the males are. Unfortunately, you'll have to imagine as I've not got a presentable shot of a male yet. I'll fix that this summer.
