Zosterops lateralis (Silvereye)

IUCN Status: Least Concern

Silvereye are a common species throughout most of Australia. They seem especially common in Tasmania, and therefore it's annoying that it has taken this long to post a photo of them. However I find that some species seem to evade me, or constantly give awkward glimpses resulting in even more awkward photos. Even more frustrating, sometimes they afford lovely, confiding observation.... but only when there's no camera handy.

I call these birds "nemesis species". I'm not alone. A very experience lady recently told me she calls such birds "bogey birds". It's somewhat comforting to know I'm not the only one a species seems to decide to play hard to get with.
