A friend and I headed out to the Chowey railway bridge (worth a look if in the area). While I couldn't get the shot I was hoping for with my current gear (wallet threatened), I did get my first panorama of the galactic arch.

The arch shape is apparently cause by the distortion of the camera and lenses capturing a spherical structure on a flat plane/sensor. While the details in this image are enhanced through long exposure time and post-processing, once your eyes adjust to the dark the arch is visible, and utterly amazing.
