Falco cenchroides (Nankeen Kestrel) IUCN Status: Least Concern Nankeen is a type of cloth originally coming from Nanjing, China. It is made from cotton, and has a characteristic colour. It is used to describe a few different types of birds that have red-yellow colouration.
I scouted this location in the Norther Territory on a walk with the family and was smitten with the forest kingfishers. I returned at dawn the next morning wasn’t disappointed. I saw this individual from a long way off, so far in fact that I wasn’t sure it was even a bird. I observed and stalked over a long period and eventually got this shot of him having a stretch.
