Pandion haliaetus (Osprey) IUCN Status: Least Concern This male is working hard to get a mullet out and up for diner. He is the resident male near my house that is a common sight on the Urangan pier where he is spoilt with herring and unwanted species by the fisherman.
Last year his mare was killed getting caught in fishing gear, and earlier this year he had a lucky escape after being rescued from similar circumstances, and treated by a vet. I'm not sure if the easy access to food, is net beneficial, but having these magnificent birds injured is heartbreaking.
